Job Description
OneMain Financial’s expanding secured lending business and an increasingly complex legal and regulatory environment provide exciting career opportunities for attorneys motivated by creative clients and a fast paced, forward-thinking culture. OneMain Financial is seeking a talented, committed, and energetic attorney with experience in secured lending, including titled and non-titled collateral. The successful candidate will demonstrate competency in all aspects of originating and servicing secured loans, including applicable licensing, lien filing, lien maintenance and lien release.
The Assistant General Counsel – Secured Lending will work closely with OneMain Financial cross-functional business partners as part of a dynamic legal team, in support of the Secured Lending line of business. Primary responsibilities include providing advice and guidance on the laws and regulations impacting secured loan origination, lien filing, maintenance and servicing for both titled and non-titled collateral. The successful candidate will have the specific qualifications and experience: Familiarity with legal issues arising in the following areas: consumer lending, technology, consumer protection, financial services and operations. Additional responsibilities include reviewing internal policies and procedures, consumer disclosures, marketing materials, and vendor agreements. The attorney will identify and advise of risks and provide practical solutions to address risks identified in conjunction with business needs. The successful candidate will have the following specific qualifications and experience:
Minimum qualifications are:
3-5 years practicing either in-house or at a reputable law firm, or in an equivalent setting
Knowledge of the following laws and regulations: Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Article 2 and Article 9; Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP) principles; Federal Trade Commission Act; Truth in Lending Act (TILA/Reg. Z); Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA/Reg. V); Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA); Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA/Reg. B); CAN-SPAM Act; Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA); state direct loan laws including finance lender laws and Uniform Consumer Credit Code laws; state motor vehicle dealer laws; state installment sales and sales finance laws; state vehicle titling laws; and other laws affecting consumer secured lending
Experience advising clients with respect to legal issues arising in consumer secured lending, technology, consumer protection, financial services and operations
Juris Doctorate degree
Admitted to a state bar and in active good standing
Exceptional writing skills, with strong attention to detail
Outstanding written and oral communication skills with ability to effectively explain complex legal concepts to a variety of audiences
Possess a high level of integrity
Preferred qualifications include:
Familiarity with auto dealer management systems
Strong ownership attitude for projects and tasks and can drive solutions forward
Flexibility to adapting his/her practice in response to changes in the industry

Creative thinking and strong problem-solving skills
