Reporting directly to the Head of Benefits, the Retirement Plans Specialist will lead administration, and implementation of retirement programs and policies as part of the Total Rewards package. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for oversight and administration of retirement related plans including defined benefit, defined contribution and non-qualified plans. This includes managing overall compliance of the retirements plans by maintaining, updating and posting plan documents, participating in plan audits, providing data for the IRS Form 5500s, distribution of Summary Annual Reports and compliance notices, assisting with PBGC filings, and any other compliance related tasks.

  • Analyzes trends in benefits and advises management on continuous improvements to costs, processes, or plan design. Provides analysis and recommendations regarding response to applicable regulatory changes. Uses root cause analysis to solve problems and make improvements to processes.

  • Leads retirement related projects across the area including creation and execution of project plans, financial modeling and impact analysis, communication plans and change management plans. Responsible for engaging key stakeholders and keeping steering committees/leadership up to date on project progress, obstacles and financial considerations.

  • Maintains the vendor relationships with providers, actuaries and broker consultants. Monitors service level agreements ensuring successful delivery of services and the plan participants. Notifies manager of vendor issues and makes recommendation on actions to be taken.

  • Participate in Investment Committee meetings and aid in preparation for meetings

  • Partners with Senior Leave and Health and Welfare Team Members.

  • Partners with communication department on the communication, education and promotion of financial pillar of the wealth programs. Creates and/or contributes to the development and delivery of communication materials related to all retirement and financial wellness offerings.

  • Provide support to HR Shared Services regarding the resolution of retirement issues; acts as escalation point for retirement related questions and requests

  • Partners with finance & accounting on retirement plans budget, claims processing and vendor payments.  Leads the team on reconciliation efforts related to payroll deductions or vendor billing.

  • Designs, recommends and implements a benefit framework to align with OneMain’s values, business objectives and budgets

  • Recommends changes to ensure alignment of the organization’s benefit objectives and competitive position in the marketplace.

  • Acts as the primary liaison with insurance carriers, vendors, brokers, and consultants on various matters such as retirement plans design, contracts, plan coverage and plan renewals.

  • Consults on complex and visible benefit issues and makes recommendations to management and other business partners


  • 5-7 years minimum prior relevant experience in developing, managing and leading benefit programs in a multi-state decentralized environment; familiarity with benefit programs in Canada a plus

  • Technical knowledge of various retirement programs

  • Possess knowledge of the regulatory landscape involving retirement programs at both the federal and state level.

  • Requires exceptional customer service, business knowledge, general management, and leadership capability and partnership within HR and functional areas.

  • Requires technical and operational capability to define and/or oversee program design in broad area of responsibility. Experience with Workday a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Business, or relevant field

  • Certification in employee benefits a plus

  • Knowledge of all financial aspects of benefit programs

  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, customer service and presentation skills.  Ability to persuade and influence with all levels of internal and external business partners

  • Ability to manage, inspire, and embrace change

  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions under pressure
