Our talented and dedicated team members constantly look for responsible ways to serve our customers when, where and how they want. It’s all about doing the right thing—a mission that hasn’t changed for more than 100 years.

The Role

One Main Financial is seeking a forward-thinking analyst to drive the data strategy which fuels our extensive use of machine learning models.  As the Associate Director of Data Strategy, this leader will understand the strategic context and priorities of our business units (Loans, Cards, Auto, Point-of-Sale, Financial Wellness), proactively scan the data landscape, select partners and vendors to engage with, and drive all facets of the relationship from onboarding to testing to sustained operations.

This is a critical leadership role reporting directly to the Head of Data Science and will sit on the Data Science Leadership Team.  This role will drive the allocation of tens of millions in data spend, impacting millions of decisions across the OneMain customer lifecycle.  This leader will set the Data Strategy roadmap and deliver the results critical to ensuring that OneMain stays at the forefront of the lending industry in our use of data.  The Associate Director of Data Strategy will be charged with both building the future while delivering impact in the present, and must have both the skills and orientation to get “hands on” as needed with partners/vendors and the underlying data itself.

Key characteristics include a strong ability to partner with and influence business leaders, strategic thinking and business problem solving, a forward leaning results focus, and expert understanding of data.  This leader must be successful in setting strategic direction, building relationships, developing partnerships, and engaging vendors.  While not needing to be a data scientist, this leader must understand the conceptual foundations of data science and how to enable the success of data science teams through providing the right data, at the right quality, at the right price.  This role will also require skilled financial planning and budget management, ensuring data investments are effectively optimized.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner across OneMain data science teams to imagine, design, and deliver the Data Strategy roadmap needed to drive competitive advantage in our use of machine learning.

  • Drive research and exploration of new data sources through the use of internal partnerships, external partnerships, and vendors.

  • Continuously monitor developments in data both in the financial services sector and more broadly to ensure that OneMain stays on the leading edge.

  • Work with external data providers to test new data and develop strategies.

  • Effectively manage external partners and vendors to ensure cost, quality, and impact meet high expectations.

  • Accurately and effectively manage OneMain’s data budget, partnering with Financial Planning and Analysis to manage tens of millions in data spend.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Finance or a quantitative discipline (Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Biostatistics, Physics, or Computer Science).

  • 6+ years of data analysis experience in a large institution; preferably at least 3 of those in consumer finance, insurance, or direct marketing.

  • Experience in setting and delivering a strategic roadmap, preferably supporting a data strategy.

  • Experience in partnership or vendor management.

  • Experience in management of a multi-vendor data budget.

  • Superior communication skills with the comfort to interact and influence partners at all levels and senior business executives.

  • Proven experience working with teams of diverse individuals focused on several disparate projects simultaneously.

  • Skilled in use of SQL and Excel.  Knowledge of Python preferred.
