We are seeking a skilled and proactive Lead Platform Engineer to join our Observability Engineering Team. This role will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining observability solutions across both cloud and on-premise environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and visibility of business-critical systems, with an initial focus on maturing OpenTelemetry.

The ideal candidate is experienced in working with OpenTelemetry standards, DevOps practices, and observability/monitoring tools including Grafana, Elastic Stack, Prometheus, BigPanda, and OpsRamp, and has a strong background in architecting observable data ingestion, infrastructure monitoring, data visualization, alert optimization, and root cause analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

· Design and develop repeatable automation patterns for OpenTelemetry

· Be the evangelist and hands on expert to engage application development teams and infrastructure teams for instrumenting OpenTelemetry within their platforms & services

· Design, implement, and maintain observability, monitoring & alerting solutions across cloud and on-premise infrastructure

· Configure dashboards, visualizations, and alerts using Grafana, Elastic Stack, and Prometheus

· Develop and maintain alerting strategies to minimize false positives and reduce alert fatigue

· Collaborate with DevOps, Cloud, and Infrastructure teams to define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets

· Define and manage continuous improvement processes ongoing maturity of the Observability as a Product

· Collaborate to identify additional use cases to leverage value from observable data (capacity utilization, finops, etc)

· Perform regular health checks of observability tools and ensure data integrity across systems

· Automate data collection and reporting for performance metrics and service health

· Analyze system behavior and performance trends to proactively identify issues and optimize system reliability

· Support incident response and root cause analysis with observability data

· Provide training and documentation to internal teams on observability best practices and tools

· Provide coaching to other members of the Observability Engineering team and the Monitoring Tools & Engineering team. Guide them and assist them on complex tasks

Required Qualifications:

· 5+ years of experience in an Observability, DevOps, Site Reliability or software engineer with passion for improving systems health role.

· Technical expert who is hands on while also being able to communicate with senior technology leaders

· Hands-on experience implementing OpenTelemetry for end-to-end transaction flows across a variety of platforms and technologies

· Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools including but not limited to:

o Grafana (dashboards, alerts)

o Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)

· Solid understanding of infrastructure components (servers, networks, storage) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).

· Proficiency in scripting or automation (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform, or Ansible).

· Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code concepts.

· Experience setting up and tuning alerts, logs, and metrics for high-scale environments.

· Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with a proactive mindset.

· Able to collaboratively establish availability and performance objectives, measure progress towards those objectives, and implement necessary changes.

· Able to interpret changing technical & process needs of product teams and adjust platform and tooling meets those needs.

· Possesses subject matter expertise with Test Driven Development (TDD) and agile methodologies.

· Able to advise on and provide alternative (out of the box) solutions.

· Experience with hands-on technical configuration and development.

· Able to provide thought leadership and mentoring to the team.

· Expert with agile software development methodologies

· Strong skills communicating, building relationships and enhancing partnerships

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience in hybrid environments (cloud + on-prem).

· Familiarity with container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).

· Knowledge of ITIL practices, incident management, and service-level management.

· Certifications in cloud platforms or observability tools.
