Manager, Direct Mail Marketing Analytics

OneMain is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager of Direct Mail Marketing Analytics to develop data-driven investment decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analytics, strategy, business growth, and communication.

The Role

OneMain Financial is the nation’s leading direct mailer for sub-prime and near-prime personal loans. As such, our direct mail (“DM”) marketing program is highly analytical and requires a large amount of strategic oversight. The candidate will be responsible for leveraging advanced analytics to resiliently grow our Direct Mail channel.  This includes DM strategy development, testing, analysis, mail selection optimization and performance reporting.

This role will have the exciting opportunity to drive significant business results by leading key projects and contributing to the innovation, creation, and launch of value-adding products that uniquely leverage the internal and external data resources OneMain has access to. The successful candidate will combine the skills of a strategic thinker with the ability to provide important inputs to a complex execution engine. On the strategy front, this person will continuously look out for opportunities to optimize and grow the channel and present insights and recommendations to senior management.

Working with various partners, the role will also have responsibilities for strategy implementation, technology roadmap development, competitive intelligence, and performance monitoring. This individual will represent the company and may engage with key business stakeholders, suppliers, and external partners.

A successful candidate will utilize skills that enable them to be versatile and successfully lead initiatives across multiple disciplines. They will bring new ways of thinking, data sources, technologies, and capabilities to our business.

Responsibilities:

  • With the team, manage a monthly DM investment decision process that maximizes both response and NPV.
  • Build a deep understanding of our end-to-end mail execution process that involves multiple teams (Campaign Execution, Credit, Marketing, etc.) and how we capture DM response data within our prospect database that feeds future insights, and execute this process on a monthly basis with minimum errors.
  • Help build and measure a testing agenda including developing tests around mail cadence, segmentation of prospects, incorporation of new data sources, and ongoing A/B creative testing process.
  • Re-evaluate and improve our holdout strategies that allow for measurement of the mail channel’s incremental contribution to the overall business and marginal incrementality
  • Build deep expertise in our DM Targeting models, partner with Data Science team to continuously improve our targeting efficiency.
  • Understand the reporting needs of the business and enhance / streamline reports where necessary.
  • Monitor and report on the broader macro-environment for personal lending, specifically other lenders behavior in Direct Mail through competitive intelligence. Use those insights to inform our own DM decision making.
  • Develop thorough data-driven analyses, insights, and recommendations across all channels. Influence leadership and drive action plans with end-to-end ownership.
  • Effectively communicate with senior leadership, summarizing complex trends and insights into simplified coherent messages.
  • Manage multiple competing projects, setting clear expectations, and adhering to deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a quantitative discipline, such as Economics, Business Analytics, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of experience in complex, data-driven problem-solving.
  • Strong SQL and/or Python skills. Hands-on experience working on complex structured and unstructured datasets involving several joins; experience with MS Office, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with one of BI or data visualization platforms a plus (PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Innovative and capable of developing a highly analytical approach to solving problems; strong data and insights intuition, intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound, fact-based recommendations, and think strategically.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with senior executives.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a passion for delivering innovative solutions.
  • Experience with various data mining and statistical methods is a plus (sampling, hypothesis testing, time series analysis, decision trees, residual modeling).
