VP/Director Software (Servicing - Payments)
Location: Evansville, IN
The Payments ecosystem operates across IBMi and modern Web / AWS platforms, integrating with both internal core systems and external payment providers. As OneMain’s offerings evolve, we must continue to rearchitect and modernize the Payments platform to support scale, resiliency, regulatory compliance, and new customer experiences. This evolution pursues several key objectives – enabling cross‑product payment functionality, improving reliability, performance, and observability, and evolving the Payments architecture toward cloud‑native and platform‑based capabilities while continuing to leverage IBMi where appropriate. Knowledge of IBM zSeries is a plus.
The leader of the Payments Platforms organization will directly manage engineering teams responsible for the full Payments vertical. The VP/D will evolve a highly skilled engineering organization focused on software craftsmanship, platform thinking, and operational excellence. The leader will chart the course for how the Payments platform aligns to business priorities, working closely with product, operations, treasury, compliance, and external partners, while evolving the architecture and technology solutions that power OneMain’s end‑to‑end money movement ecosystem.
The VP‑D will bring deep experience across payment technologies, payment industry standards, and regulatory considerations, along with a strong background in modern application development and cloud platforms. They will have delivered hybrid solutions spanning on‑prem and AWS environments and will demonstrate a strong drive toward leveraging cloud‑native services. Experience delivering full‑stack solutions is expected, including enterprise integration patterns, orchestration engines, and customer‑facing and internal applications (e.g., Web, APIs, and middleware). Along with assessing and cultivating engineering talent, the VP‑D will be responsible for driving modernization through iterative delivery, platform architecture, quality engineering, DevOps, and automation across the Payments ecosystem.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
·Establish objectives and key results (OKRs) for the Payments platforms, working with peers and engineering leadership to align against product priorities, regulatory obligations, and business OKRs.
·Establish a prioritization and interaction model between the Payments platform and product delivery teams that provides early visibility into business needs, balances platform health with feature delivery, and ensures effective deconfliction across funding and payment initiatives.
·Inspire and cultivate an engineering‑centric organization, motivating individuals to advance their craft in building secure, resilient, and scalable payment systems. Assess talent and determine buy/hold/sell strategies while attracting engineering talent that raises the bar for the Payments organization.
·Establish and evolve a strategy for delivering Payments capabilities that span both loan funding and customer payments.
·Establish strong working relationships with engineering leaders, product teams, business partners, treasury, compliance, and operations stakeholders across the enterprise.
·Effectively balance business demand, regulatory requirements, and system health by making informed tradeoffs between feature delivery, platform evolution, and operational stability.
·Drive strong stewardship of Payments data, enabling analytics, monitoring, reconciliation, and decisioning capabilities that improve operational transparency, compliance posture, and customer outcomes.
·Work closely with organizational leaders in Quality Engineering, DevOps, Architecture, Security, and Production Operations to drive maturity in performance, resiliency, auditability, and cycle‑time reduction across the Payments delivery ecosystem.
·Re‑image Payments service delivery and execution by incorporating automation and Generative AI capabilities into the SDLC, operational monitoring, and support workflows where appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
·10+ years of experience leading employee/contractor blended engineering organizations.
·Demonstrated proficiency managing priorities in a dynamic, geographically distributed workforce.
·10+ years working with iterative and incremental delivery methods (e.g., SCRUM, Agile).
·10+ years of experience selecting, integrating, and negotiating with third‑party vendors and service providers, including payment processors and financial technology partners.
·5+ years defining compelling job descriptions and hiring high‑caliber engineering talent across employee and contractor roles.
·5+ years leading on‑prem to cloud‑based technology transformations, including hybrid IBMi / Web / AWS environments.
·Experience of AI in development.
·Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline preferred; master’s degree desirable or equivalent professional experience.
·Strong familiarity with payment integration patterns, cloud‑based and on‑prem architectures, and enterprise messaging and orchestration.
·Knowledge of payments regulatory requirements, industry standards, and compliance considerations impacting loan payments and funding flows.
·Experience delivering strategic presentations to C‑suite and senior leadership, with the ability to clearly articulate platform strategy, risks, and tradeoffs.
·Experience supporting organizations with multiple lines of business and systems that have both vertical and cross‑cutting payment responsibilities.
·Demonstrated experience leveraging DevOps pipelines and automation to improve quality, resiliency, and delivery throughput in highly regulated environments.
